Answer:
Many people see ICT as a one way street but depending on the modules you cover, it opens up a lot of doors. Personally I did a BND ICT Practitioners before my degree, the course included - hardware, web design, databases, programming, graphics, animation and a small amount of business. Obviously when you see all of the modules behind the core subject, it becomes a lot more interesting. Personally, I started the course wanting to be a graphic / web designer and at the end of the course ended up on a programming degree! The great thing about A Level study is the range of subjects and modules you can choose from. I highly recommend trying a range of subjects (even ones you think you may not have a lot of interest in) and simply see where they take you. When you come to choosing your degree you will most likely have a specific area that you know you want to work in. As for jobs, there is no limit. I'm afraid I'm only covering ICT here but think about it - almost every company in the world uses IT systems! Those who don't are likely considering investing in an IT based system. You can be creating those systems, you can be adding to those systems, you can be maintaining those systems. There is a common misconception that it's hard to find work in IT, I can assure you that isn't the case. Here's a real world example .. last year at my local university's graduation .. ICT graduates: 28 .. psychology graduates: 362!! ICT is a massive subject that is constantly advancing, there will always be work for those qualified in the subject. In conclusion - examples of jobs in ICT .. Programmer, Web designer / developer, database administrator, systems analyst, graphic designer and animator (to some extent, but usually covered in greater detail on media courses), system support, data analyst etc etc .. Also remember that ICT skills are transferable, as I said before, almost all companies use IT systems so a solid knowledge of ICT will always put you in good standing.
