Should I include the volunteer work on my resume?

How to make an appealing resume when you've got no work experience?

  • I'm a very responsible person...I've always done well in school, going to college, been looking after neighbours' kids and pets since forever! But, I have absolutely no work experience! I have 1 volunteer experience that I can put on my resume, but other than that...I've got nothing else! Clearly I'd put my education and skills, but it will still be very empty! I'll be applying to an entry-position government job, though, despite it being entry-position, I still feel that they won't consider me based on my resume. My aunt who works in the same office (much higher up who started in the position I'm applying for) has put in a good word for me, but I'd still like to appear professional. Should I include a cover letter stating why I have no experience?

  • Answer:

Socially adept and recognised as an individual in whom responsibility is placed have been placed in responsibility for neighbours children and protection , tended to the care and needs the family pets during periods of abscence . my volunteer experience has stretched to further social awareness as etc. etc.

This is a common question and all for all the teachers who teach resume writing and don't tell you how to solve this problem, you all deserve a good slap across the back of the head. Look you have 2 things. 1. You have your personality. You match this to the job. I want to work in sales because I am friendly and like to help people. I want to be a book keeper because I am careful and diligent. 2. You have your career goals. What you want to do with your life. Once again match it to the job. Also realise you have lots of experience. Look after neighbour's kids and pets means you are responsible and trusted by your neighbours. But you probably have other things as well. Large group projects, volunteer work etc. Every little bit counts.
