I accepted a job position that doesn't require a college degree, is this a good idea?
-
I graduated early from college in December 2010 with a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing.I graduated with a 3.24 gpa, and kept busy running track on a scholarship and playing club rugby. I have also been working at a grocery store since May 2008 making barely above minimum wage and only working 20 hours a week. During my time after college, I have applied to well over 100 jobs, and have gone on 9 interviews, some never even calling me back after the interview. Yesterday I accepted a job position at Home Depot for a call center associate. It is 40 hours a week, pays $12 per hour, there is incentive bonuses based on how well I do, The interview process consisted of a phone interview with a human resources manager and then actually going to the office and interviewing four different times with four different supervisors. It was fairly intensive for an entry level job. This job only requires that you have a high school degree though. I feel like I have no choice, but to take it. I don't know if there is a lot of chance to move up through the company in a call center though. It is also not what I went to school for. My plan is to work at this new job 5 days a week, and work at the grocery store 1 day a week. This will allow me to still say that I have been working at the same place for 3 years because I want to continue to look for jobs. Do you think that this is a good idea? Do you also think that I should put my new job on my resume even thought I will not have been working there for a long time, or just keep my grocery store job on it?

Answer:
You are going to want to hear this but everyone is in this predicament so do not worry. But indeed it is very frustrating to have been through everything ...... I think you should put your job on your resume because if its not there, someone will ask what you were doing during this time ...... and the response .... Oooo is he afraid of something (if you had written nothing). Take the job because you have to eat at the end of the day and keep your eyes open and your imagination active for new possibilities.
