Why do you think you are the most suitable person for the job?

Do you think it's hard for a TV news anchor person to find a job after they've been fired?

  • I was thinking that on air television new anchor people who report the news must face limited job prospects after they've been laid off by a news station. I mean, they have a public persona and image, and the only available jobs would probably be at other rival new stations. I think they're lucky if they get hired by one of these rival new stations as a news anchor again, but what happens if they don't find another job as a new anchor? What do their career prospects then become? Do they get a job doing off-camera work at a new station?

  • Answer:

According to 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy', it's very hard to get another job after you've been fired.

firing is more common for TV anchors than for most other jobs, so probably there's less stigma attached. Where I live, we get both Philadelphia and New York stations, and the TV news people from NY often show up on the Philly news, or vice versa.

they either move to a different station, maybe in the same market, maybe in a different city. or they go into a related line of work, like being the PR person for a local corporation. Or maybe go to an ad agency. In this industry, management can sometimes be very fickle.

Over the years there have been many reports of people never working again after getting the sack in a news organization. It's almost like their face and personality are a brand that belongs to a network in viewers minds.
