How to get a restaurant/bar job with no previous experience in the restaurant industry?

  • is it unlikely that id get hired for a restaurant or bar job if ive never worked in the restaurant industry before? although im only 18 i have quite a bit of work experience.. just none in restaurants. and i'd like to try it out! also, is it weird to apply to restaurants that id like to work at even if they dont have a 'help wanted' sign? just on the off chance that theyd like my resumé/think im worthy of hiring enough to hire me?! im really unsure of how i should go about it considering i dont have restaurant experience. any tips?! thanks

Food service jobs are some of the most flexible jobs because it's easy to train someone who is coachable, detailed and friendly. If you have no experience, expect to be started in the entry level side of the business, busing, hostess, dishwasher, prepping, etc.

i got my first bar job after giving my cv to like 50 bars. one called back. i had very little waitressing experience and other random stuff. but bars are fine. if they see that your hard working and have had other jobs etc before and see that your good with people theyll call. also give your cv out even if they are not looking. some bars are assholes and throw it straight in the bin and others keep them. we used to have a cv pile and whenever someone quit or we needed new staff wed look through the pile so dont give up :)
