What's the best way to make a good impression at a job interview?

I have a job interview in the the bad job market, whats a way to shine with so much Competition?

  • Its hard because the lack of jobs out there right now, and to get an employers attention. After 2 weeks of talking to a company and telling them what I can do, and staying on them I got an interview. I dont know how many people are going for the interview too, but I wanna go in there and make sure that I do the best I can do. Any interview advice/tips/stories?

  • Answer:

Just outline all your qualities you want them to see. 1) Let them know about any specialized courses or things you have volunteered at, etc that would have to do with the position. 2) Do some research on the company and tell them about a product or something you like about there company, flatter them. 3) Give some reference names and numbers of people you think would give you a good reference. 4) Make sure to shake hands introduce yourself when you first walk in and shake hands again and thank them for the opportunity at the end of the interview.

Make sure you read the job spec/vacancy so you have a good grasp of what they're looking for Research the company Look confident, shake their hands firmly & make eye contact & smile - basic but very effective. Think about what you have to offer - skills, qualities, experience. A big trend just now is competence based interviews which is where you are asked to give an example of an occasion you used a skill they require. This is where the job spec comes in handy - if they're asking for a 'dynamic & motivated individual' then think of occasions when you have been dynamic & motivated. Work based examples are ideal but personal ones are good too. Think about why you want the job You might have to do group work as well as part of the interview process - if so, again they'll be looking for what they've asked for - a good team player, leadership skills - so it's about sitting back & listening to others but being able to use your initiative & speak up when necessary. Always have some questions you can ask at the end of the interview - such as training opportunities, it's fine to ask if there were many candidates interviewed & when/how will you hear from them. Follow up the interview with a phone call/letter/email of thanks for their time Good luck!
