Need help with job application?
-
So its my first time applying for a job (ever!) for summer; I'm going to apply at Marshall's because its the only place around here right now that is hiring 16 year olds. Do I need to attach a resume? Or just fill out the application and hand it to the manager or whoever...here's the app: http://www.tjxjobs.com/application.pdf If so, what should I include in the resume? Please help! I've never done this before! :o

Answer:
Marshmallo, Unless they are asking you specifically for a resume, just fill out the application and turn that in to the manager in person. OK? Good luck! :<)

handing in a resume can't hurt. It shows you are willing to go the extra step for the job. Since your only 16 and you don't have a job yet, your resume won't be as long as some people. Don't worry, there are important things that a teen can include in a resume like... * volunteer work This show's the company your well rounded and a decent person * education Besides putting the name and address of your school it may be helpful to list any clubs or activities you are as well as your gpa. Show the company you are able to balance work and school *skills List any skills you may have pertaining to this job. Do you excel in certain computer programs like word or excel, if going for a cashier job, do you have do well in math or business classes. Are you creative or have any art talents (this may help with working at Michaels) * references Some people don't like to include references on a resume but I have always found success doing it. A reference could be a pastor, teacher, coach etc. List 3. It may be also be helpful for your references to write a letter of recommendation for you. Doesn't have to be long...just a paragraph stating how they know you and why they think you would be a good employer. Most adults will know how to write a letter of reference * awards Have you received any awards that may help in getting the job? List them as well. For help with the resume layout go to a search engine and search for resume samples. Also try search for resumes for teens, or my first resume. You may find some good information. Best of luck
I work at marshalls, find somewhere else. for your own good.** you can pick up the app in the store or print it from the internet. either way it has to be handed in in person. **this is from my experience the one i work at is always hiring new people because everyone tries to find something else once hired. as everyone working there calls it a 'revolving door'
You need not attach your resume because the application form already cites what is needed to process the application which is similar to what is on a resume. When you have the time, it would be best to come up with a resume for future job applications just in case.
