Is photography just a hobby or should I pursue it as a career? Opinions?

I'm 19, and have been taking pictures outside, at the ocean, and of myself and others for a few years. It started out as me just taking pictures of myself and my family at 14 just for fun, then turned into me getting a digital camera and taking pictures at the ocean on vacation or outside with sunsets, and stuff like that. I've shown them to friends and family, and some of them are actually really amazing. It's something I really enjoy. Anyway, a local college has some non-credit classes for photography that I was thinking about getting into. It's $149 and you have to have your own camera, and lasts two months. I thought I could do that and see if it's for me or not, and then go from there. Is a career in photography worth pursuing or is that a job market that isn't really worth it? Can you make good money doing that sort of thing? Am I wasting my time? Thanks<3

Answer:
I have a couple friends that have turned this particular hobby into a career and do very well for themselves. Do what you love. You can never go wrong with that!

My cousin went to the art institute in Pittsburgh and got a degree in it, she makes about 55,000 a year and has her own studio. She is in a job she loves and is happy with it.
Yes definitely you can it is worth it these days you have ample of career in your photography as mas communicatoin and media is growing everyday and you need to take photograph extensively .
It sounds to me like it's just a hobby for you. Which is a great hobby, and you can make a few bucks off of it. I studied photography for a year at the Art Institute and I absolutely loved it, it was so much fun, learned a lot (don't go unless you're rich, which is why I stopped) but i decided to switch to graphic design because i love it, and im good at it, plus, it goes hand-in-hand with photo. if you're good, you'll make money, but I wouldn't completely go for it as a career, just because it's such a competitive field.. Especially where I live, because EVERYONE is a photographer in Utah. And it's hard to get noticed. But like I said, if you're good, you can make money, and if you decide you want to make it your career later on, then great, but start with something else, and work on your photography. Because you can always teach yourself it. I've got a blog you can check out. It's www.fizz.lizz.blogspot.com. I'm also 19!
