What is needed on a resume?

What are some things that aren't needed on a resume?

  • Right now my resume is two pages long. I need to add my current job on there, hopefully it doesn't cross over into three pages, but I was just wondering if there is anything that isn't necessary on a resume. I have a job on there I only worked at for a month before taking an internship, should I leave off that one? I didn't leave on bad terms or anything. Most of my jobs were summer ones. Other things on my resume is education and skills.

  • Answer:

For any job requiring LESS than a master's degree, one page is the norm. Google "resume examples" for more information.

Skills, unless related to the position you are applying for, can be deleted......no hobbies or outside activities..................internships that are related to the position are OK; others are not

As others have said, your resume shouldn't be more than one page long unless you have had years of professional or managerial experience. The career center at my university advises one page resumes for those fresh out of college. So it depends on your experience. You need to keep information on your resume that is relevant to the job you're applying for. If you're applying for a sales position, you will want to list jobs where you have proven sales experience and customer service experience. You probably wouldn't want to list a summer camp job where you worked with children.

i can tell you they ONLY look at the first few lines AT MOST of the first page
