Can you explain what a good resume includes?
-
I am about 15. It is summer, and I'm looking into getting a job at the local veterinary clinic. There are no applications, but they accept resume's and I'm a little ... worried? or confused. I've never typed/written a resume and I'm not exactly sure what i should mention, how long it should be, etc. can someone please help describe/explain what it should include, how long a GOOD resume is. i have no work experience but i have had a variety of different pets, and i enjoy taking care of them so i think being a intern at the clinic would help pursue a veterinary career. please and thank you -bayleigh

Answer:
If you're only 15 there won't be much to put on the CV in terms of education and work experience. Perhaps you could talk about your pets under a "relevant experience" section. Perhaps describe the pets and any challenges which you have had to overcome having them (e.g. getting them to obey your commands, taking care of them, illnesses etc.) A general CV in the UK should not be more than two pages (until you're a bit later in your career when you can fill a few more pages. Generally, the structure for a student would be: 1. Name and personal information such as address, e-mail and phone number; 2. Education and highlights during the formative years; 3. Professional experience (I suggest you replace this with a 'relevant experience section talking about your experience with animals in general); 4. Other engagements and responsibilities; 5. Other skills and interests (e.g. languages and hobbies, IT stuff); 6. References (include at least two people who know you and which the potential employer could ring to make sure you're the type of person that you portray in the CV). That's pretty much it. Do this in list/table form and include dates where relevant. Good luck with the vet job! :)

No need to make it longer than a page. Your resume should have the following: 1) Opening summary indicating your love and passion for animals 2) A list of traits you possess that would be useful in your targeted job (time management, animal care, etc.) 3) Education (with any notable clubs, activities or sports) 4) Community Involvement (charity work, feeding homeless, helping churches, etc) For more help on your resume, visit Resume Phenom, LLC at WWW.RESUMEPHENOM.COM

there are many good sites ie: http://www.damngood.com/workbooks/highschool.pdf Use you volunteer experiences as if they were work experiences, and try to make everything you do sounds proffessional. For example: picked clothes off the ground and folded them vs efficiently orgaized and cleaned clothing displays Also make sure there are not grammar or spelling mistakes

It's just your past work and experience, but obviously since you're 15, you won't have anything to put in it! Just tell them-they will understand. Find a way to demonstrate your enthusiasm. Talk to them.
