Can an editorial be an interview?

How can I get the day off for a job interview when I already have a work commitment?

  • I've been unhappy in my current job for some time and have been applying for several vacancies. The one I really wanted called today to offer me an interview a week on Monday. I'm thrilled and usually there wouldn't be a problem for me to book a day's annual leave to attend the interview, but on this day I'm attending a training course which my company have paid over £200 for me to go on so I won't be able to take it as holiday. I don't want to pull a sickie as they'd still have to pay the money. The interview is in a different city over 2 hours away so I would need the whole day off. When they called I asked if there was any flexibility on the interview date and I was told they could ask the panel, but it didn't sound very promising. I'd love this job but don't know how I can go to the interview on this day. What should I do?

Reschedule the interview by telling them that you have a work commitment that can't be rescheduled. They should be impressed with you for your integrity.

You're in a tough dilemma. If it was me, I would have to caulk it up as "it wasn't meant to be" and move on. The other choice is to call or email the company and explain, being truthful that you already have a commitment and you're sorry you can't make the interview but if they change there mine, you would love an interview. Good luck!

All you can do is say you have an interview... or say something urgent came up,a family thing...
