Who is a Junior Account Manager?

Manager typed in the wrong account number. Where is my check?

  • About a month ago, I gave my manager a blank check and allowed him to set up direct deposit. Well, when the next payday came around I had nothing added to my bank account and the paper check at the store was just a pay stub. When I read the account number on the pay stub I realized my manager had typed in the account number + the number of the specific check. Obviously it didn't go into another person's account because it was too long of an account number. Well, we got my direct deposit straightened out and everything went smoothly this last payday. Where is my other check? My manger gave me a hot line number for the company that deals specifically with pay related issues, but it rings 3x and then goes to voice mail. I've left 3 voice mails over the past week and a half and still nothing. My manager is clueless. What should I do?

Have you left messages when it gets to vm? This is a common problem. Most companies do what's called a "prenote" before turning on your direct deposit. The prenote process mimics the direct deposit to make sure it's correct before it actually starts putting your money there. It sounds like something got messed up with that process. Getting your money should be easy once it gets to the right person. Send a letter to the person above to your HR dept, if there is one or to your manager and his boss, if there isn't. Just tell them exactly what you said here - you money didn't go into your account and you've never received it.

If it were me, I would contact the bank where you intended your money to go. They may have some way to trace that particular electronic transfer. Maybe they do, I don't know. I'm aware any mistake at all on your electronic transfer, if the digits are not exactly right, it may be 2 to 3 months before you see it. I've a hunch your bank may be able to help you if you can tell them the digits that were on that funds transfer.
