What are the requirements for lab technician?

What do i need to do to be a lab technician besides biology?

  • what do i need to do to be a lab technician besides biology? I want to study biology as i have an interest in it, if i was to use this to become a lab technician what other qualifications would i need to have? or are there any other jobs i could pursue with biology? i couldn't travel out of the country for jobs as a have small children, i live in Northern Ireland.

    You're too broad when you're talking about wanting to work in a lab. What you're talking about going into the medical field, you will need to study human biology. If you want to pursue a degree in biology, & if you already have a strong biology background, you can go ahead and take advanced college courses like: Human Physiology, Human Anatomy, Chemistry, Pathophysiology and etc. AND if you posses a college degree in Biology, you can always go work in hospitals or in independently owned clinics. Examples of a biology jobs are a pathologist, blood lab technician, and etc.

Well it kinda depends on what kind of lab technician you are interested in being. If you are looking at life sciences then you will need biology as a college course but that doesn't mean you need to major in biology. You could major in chemistry, zoology or botany. Biology is a good general major but it make take a minor or even a MS in one of the aforementioned to get a chance at working in any number of lab environments.If you are interested in say the energy fields then you would probably be looking at some type of petroleum engineering degree program that would include say geology and the like. Best bet is to try and talk with some lab techicians in your area, they may have a professional association that you could talk with and see what programs they may have majored in to get to their positions.

you need at least a 2 yr degree probably and it will require lots of different courses besides science related courses call a community college and ask if they have any degree programs that prepare you for that type of job
