How do I ask for a certain salary at a job interview?

Is it ok to ask about salary prior to driving 3 hours for 2nd job interview?

  • I was offered a phone interview for a position 3 hours away. Now they have called me and asked me to come this week for 2nd interview face to face. I know that the starting salary for this position is below what I would accept but not sure if they would consider my current salary when making offer or not. Is it ok to ask about the salary prior to driving 3 hours for second interview so that I dont waste their time or mine? If so, how should I word it. I had applied for a job this far away becasue my husband thought he would be transferred there, but it did not happen, but my job is on shaky ground now, but I still have it....

    Well, another consideration is are you going to be moving there and such...all of that can be used to lead up to the salary question.

I have always been told to wait until they discuss salary first. If you're job is on "shaky ground," some salary that these people may offer is better than no salary if you lose your current job. In a nutshell, don't ask a question that would cause you to miss this opportunity should you need it.
