How long does it take to be an IT professional?

How long would it take for me to become a professional Youth Worker? (UK) Please read and help?

  • Hello everyone, I am 19 years old and I live in Cambridgeshire which is in England. I haven't got any qualifications in Youth Work, but I would start off doing a level 2 NVQ in Youth Work, and I just want to know after I have done a level 2 and level 3 NVQ's in Youth Worker, should I then do a Foundation Degree, Or should I do the BA (Hons) Degree? After I have done the BA (Hons) Degree I will then be a professional Youth Worker, but should I skip the Degree and go straight into the BA (Hons) Degree? What should I do, and how long would it take for me to become a professional Youth Worker? Can you please explain and help me. Thank you in advance, I am very grateful for all of your help.

  • Answer:

you've asked this many times and I've answered it several times My son is a qualified youth worker,so maybe read the answers I gave before A degree in youth work is not necessary, but qualifications in what line of work you do 'IS' necessary you mentioned Football coaching before, so get the proper qualification and the required coaching diploma My son works with Youth , doing Art and Music, so is therefore qualified in Art and Music at VQ level 4 VQ level 3 is a practitioner level, level 4 is a tutoring/coaching/manager level

you only need to take a foundation degree if you havent got the qualifications to go straight into a degree but i would think if you've got A-C grade GCSEs in English and maths, and you do your nvq 2 and 3, you shudnt need to do the foundation degree

1. The first thing to do is to have a look at youth and community projects in your local area and over the internet to get an idea of what the profession involves and what type of work is on offer. There are lots of types of roles and a big variety of organisations (e.g. small, large, local, national, international, local authority, crime prevention, liberatory, thematic/targeted, outreach or centre based) 2. Next, try to get some volunteering work at a local youth club or community centre. This will help you get experience and will help you make links with people who can help you with training or a job 3. Come on an ICA:UK course to build your expertise, see you courses section 3. Think about taking an NVQ course or a University course in Youth and Community Work (you might have to pay for this, or might be able to get a free course, ask at your local college and university) 4a. Then, if you are looking for paid work, join a few email lists such as Children and Young People Now as they have jobs updates. You should also ask around your local clubs and centres. If you do a course, you will do some placements in youth and community centres, so if you impress these places, they might be able to offer you some work. Don't be surprised if you get a part-time post at first. Lots of youth and community work jobs are part-time. You may end up having 2 or 3 part-time roles, or the part-time job might lead to a full time role. Find a placement. Attend a volunteer session to find out more about volunteering with the Youth Service. It is usual for the trainee to attend an induction/introduction to youth work training day. Having secured a placement you will now be able to attend the Youth Work Training Award, which is offered through the medium of English and Welsh. The next step is to achieve a certificate level 3 in Youth Work. At this level you will now be qualified to run a youth centre/provision. Of course experience will also be considered when applying for a position
