Can you recommend a professional resume service?

My first part time job? Question about Community Service on your resume?

  • I am 14 and I am turning fifteen in thirteen days. I am trying to build my resume up so that i can start applying and hopefully working as soon as possible. My high school requires all students to have at least 40 hours of community service or we aren't allowed to graduate. I have all ready completed 41 hours of community service, and i am planning on doing as much as i can. My question is, If you were an employer looking at a 15 year old's resume, would 41 hours of community service stand out to you if they have no other working experience aside from babysitting? I really appreciate any tips you can give me, and thank you for giving your time to answer this!

  • Answer:

Show it, but say specifically that it's part of your high school requirements so they don't think it's court ordered because you got in trouble. Or else just say "volunteer work" rather than using the term community service.

Don't specify how many hours you worked on the resume. If they want to know they'll ask in the interview. Did you do community service at one location? If so, call it an internship.....that'll look very impressive on a 15 year old's resume.

Volunteer work definitely looks good on a resume, and like the other user said, try calling it volunteer experience rather than community service. It shows you have initiative and interpersonal skills, and try to add to your resume with any language/computer skills you might have. I was in your situation too, fourteen-soon-to-be-fifteen, with no work experience under my belt except for a couple volunteer jobs and conversational skills in Spanish and French. I got the job, fortunately :) Good luck to you.

Agree with Judy and suggest you: 1-detail it in points format like listing the 5 key tasks you been doing and 2-the results to achieved. 3-Chose something valuable and present it in professional way. no you can't call it: internship.
