How do I get an interview/job?
-
I'm 18 and just graduated from high school and am trying to get money for college. My family is about to hit rock bottom because my mom (the only worker in the house) is losing her job of 20 years. My sister has become pregnant and has moved back in with her boyfriend (a good guy who is also looking for a job. My father was in a car accident three years ago and was diagnosed with colon cancer a year ago. This has forced me to quit my first job and take care of him since then so i have no experience. So I understand that I have no experience and am young but I have a very open schedule, am a good people person, and am willing to work very hard. My problem is that when ever I put in an application for places that are most definitely hiring I just never hear back from them. I call every other day and go up to the place I am applying for but I never get a chance for an interview. I know I could get a job if i could just get an interview!!! HELP!

Answer:
If you have no aptitude for college, you may want to consider the military. It sounds like you have no prospects for college (simply because you didn't mention any) and no credentials or experience that would make you a good job prospect, especially in this economy. Seems to me, your best option (for you AND your family) is to join the military. You'll be able to take some college courses within about three years and also send some of your paycheck home to help support your family. If you ever thought about military service, now's the time to inquire with different branches and see where your aptitude may be. If the military's out of the question. It's going to be very tough for you to become employed. But speak with a career counselor and see what they say. By the way, I'm NOT a military recruiter. But I AM a military vet.
