How to become a mechanical engineer.?

• currently in college, i would like to major in mechanical engineer. i would like to know what i would need to do, or what classes i would need to take to major in that field. i would also like to know if this is a good career or not. im 20 years old and this is my second year in college. i either want to open my own auto body repair shop with my father. we work on cars at home. or go in to the mechanical engineering field. any feedback WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED
