I need advice on job searching?

I have been unemployed for a while now and really getting frustrated. I live in Michigan (highest unemployment in the country). My experience is in Sheet Metal Fabrication and production supervision. The problem I run into looking for this type of job is that companies want and Engineering Degree or BA. My degree is in Electronic Media. I got my degree 13 years ago and it is sort of like computers where it gets outdated after a while so I get no responses from jobs in that industry. I scour the on-line job sites but most jobs are posted by recruiters that won't talk to you if you have one thing out of place. A lot of news articles say you need to pound the pavement now, but this is Michigan, either fab shops have closed down or are so slow the owners are the only ones there. All my contacts in the industry have closed their doors. Even when I offer to work on the floor, they won't hire me because "I'll just keep looking for a job that suits my qualifications better and won't stay around." One article says you need to get creative with your resume to make you stand out, but another says to keep it in line as to not look like a goof-ball. I've kept it in line but no one seems interested. I am also starting to worry about how long I have been unemployed so far. How do I counter that?!?

Answer:
Have you considered going back to school? The government will pay for it and you can still draw while your in school. Is there a community collage there where you could teach in their vocational department? Does the school system there have vocational classes that you could teach? You could check with them and see if you could begin the process of teaching. I know this is a hard time right now. I live in Georgia and we have the second highest unemployment rate in the country. Just hang in there and keep trying. I know the government has extended the length of time you can draw. If you can swing going back to school I would seriously considered it if I were you. Good Luck!
