I saved my work through my e-mail.

Position I interviewed for was re-posted 30 minutes after getting response to my Thank You email?

  • Last week I saw an ad on Craigslist that I jumped on. I have a degree in graphic design and have a lot of administrative experience. The ad was for a perfect combination of both. Not a large company, just a realtor and an assistant. I emailed my resume and promptly about 10:00 am the next morning she was emailing me asking me for some examples of my design work. I was at my current job at the moment and I sent her a quick email stating so, as my design work is saved on my home computer. As soon as I got home I compiled many examples along with descriptions (as she had requested). In less than two hours (about 9:00 PM) she had emailed me back requesting I call her for an interview the following week. I called her the next day and we scheduled an interview for Sunday. I went in with my full portfolio and she was very impressed. We went over the job duties, salaries, benefits, etc. She ended with that I was her first choice to interview based on my resume and ability. I felt really good and the position was really promising. She told me to email her any time should I have any other questions. She did state that she had a few other candidates to interview (out of 30 applicants she said there was only about 5 that she actually desired interviews with) but that the final interview would be on Saturday and she would make a decision mid-late the following week. I did have one question as soon as I got home and sent her a quick email asking it. I sent a follow-up email today, thanking her (again) and stating that I was still very interested. She sent me a response Thanking me very much for the response and that she has been too busy to interview anyone else as of yet. She would be finishing up interviews next week (which goes beyond the "Saturday" timeline originally given) but she was very impressed with me and my abilities and she would keep me posted. 40 minutes later I get on Craigslist (as I have not stopped my job search) and the most recent posting is listed as I have already viewed it and it was the same heading as the posting of this job I am speaking of. Sure enough, it was the same posting, slightly rewritten, but I know it's the same as her name is in the posting as the person of contact. I compared the time of the Craigslist posting to that of the email I just received. I received her response at 10:36 PM and the Craigslist posting was posted at 10:53 PM. Should I take this as a bad sign? Although I have not stopped my search, I still really desire this particular job and would rather not get my hopes up only to be let down. What's everyone else's thoughts?

  • Answer:

It's hard to tell. This person might have been very impressed with you, but might have decided to see some more candidates. Or maybe her supervisor asked her to see some other candidates, and so she posted it again. I would just keep my fingers crossed. Do not become too eager with sending multiple inquiring emails or thank you emails. You should probably wait one or two weeks, and then politely ask, but for now, you should wait. Good luck!
