Can I get hired as a server without experience?

What should I do to get hired if I have no work experience and nothing substantial to businesses on my apps?

  • I have been trying to find my first job for over a year now. Still, no luck. I am a senior in high school and I am extremely smart. I know I have many excellent skills and attributes beneficial to the majority of jobs out there, I just don't think that any employer would know it from only looking at my application. I am under a lot of pressure to get employed, and I am just getting frustrated with all the apps I have filled out and turned in, all the calls I have made to check the status of my application.. I have had interviews at just 2 places in the course of over a year, Bruster's and Burger King. I really thought everything went extremely well.. Yet I am still jobless! And I don't think it is anything except the no work experience.. I am not a criminal, have never gotten held back in school, always provide 3 good references, spell things correctly, fill every section out... I have also thought that maybe if I go to a job fair and talk to the hiring company in person, maybe that would help out a lot.. only I do not know when/where they are and I am getting to the point where I am running out of time and I really need one asap. So, if I can't get hired because I don't have experience.. how can I get any experience?! I am so frustrated!! If you know anything I could try or pointers or good places to apply.. anything..     I left school without a single qualification. I struggled for jobs but got jobs based on my personality alone initially. It wasn't easy but I got there in the end. Problem was, as soon as I got working I was looking for ways not to work. You will soon realize that not everyone wants to work for someone else, I was one of those people. I had aspirations and wanted to make something of myself and very quickly wanted out of the corporate world. You have a couple of choices. You can slog it out and keep approaching company after company until you get somewhere. To me you seem quite articulate and because of that I guess you are a quite possibly an entrepeneurial type. usually with your first job you have to know somebody to get you in..

Try a local salon. You could answer the phone and clean. Best thing you could do is go in for a haircut and then ask the stylist if they are in need of help. Salons are typically very flexible which is a plus when your a student. Tip: I ONLY hire people who come across CONFIDENT and EAGER. Which can be hard for a teen who has no work experience. But if you want the job you have to REALLY show it. Confidence even shows in your handshake.

Have you considered volunteer work? It will give you work experience and references. In my local area, the food bank accepts volunteers twice a week…just complete an online application and you could be volunteering the next week. Animal shelters/rescue centers take volunteers too. Depends on what your interests are.
