What should my resume include?

Mailing in a resume for a job opening, what do I include besides the resume itself?

  • Normally I bring a resume to an interview or email it with a brief "hello" with my name, phone number, etc. The place I am applying at is accepting resume by mail only so should I include a cover letter, and if so, what do I write? I know I sound dumb but I've never had to mail one and don't want them to think I am unfit for the job. It is an entry level position at a car dealership (parts counter) which I have experience so I think I might have a shot as long as I don't screw up the resume part lol. Any advice is appreciated!

  • Answer:

You need to include a cover letter. You can look up examples on the internet. Basically, the cover letter introduces you and why are applying for the job, as well as brief overview of why you are qualified. The cover letter should be written in a way to get them interested in looking at the resume.

Write a nice cover letter naming the job you are seeking and explaining that you are enclosing the resume. This is a good place to show off your language and organizational skills. Use the "business letter" form. Here is a good "how to" site: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/653/01/
