How To Submit Job Application?

Is it a waste of my time to fill out a job application then submit it when they're not hiring?

  • After a year of almost applying for a job every month, I want some opinions since I am still a first timer on job hunting. I'm desperate for a job. Last Monday, I went to practically every store at a mall asking for applications and even when they said they weren't hiring, I'd ask for an application. I only got to one store that actually was hiring and had a "Help Wanted" sign. Not sure I'd get called back for the job after the interview last Wednesday,I went again to two different malls, asking if they're hiring/collecting job applications from every store I saw. Is it a bad thing to just fill out applications and turn them in even if they're not hiring? Was this all a waste of my time?

    Not necessarily! Sometimes stores need somebody ASAP, due to illness or a firing, expansion, holidays, whatever. If you put in applications, nd a lot of them, eventually someone will call you. You sound like a self starter. People like go-getters ans I see great things for you in the future. Good luck!

It's not necessarily a waste of your time, some company's will keep your application on file in for when they are hiring again. In general you're of course much better off applying to companies that are hiring... but I wouldn't say applying to ones that aren't is a waste of time, there's always a chance... For instance someone could quit the day after you submit your application, and tada! they suddenly are hiring, and you just gave them an application! just keep trying, you'll find something.

since you are looking for a job. keep on applying. you never know, just one place might be the right one for you

Filling out an application and turning it in doesn't hurt and increases the opportunity (be as minimal as it may be at present) to be a candidate when an opening occurs. The company might not be hiring today but they might be tomorrow and your information is already there.
