How do you get a second job if you were fired from your first job?

• I had a job in high school at clothing store. I worked there my whole senior year and the summer following it, but then I had to quit because I was moving away for college. I had to move into my college apartment sooner than i thought because of freshman orientation. So when I quit my job I only gave like 8 or 9 days notice I was quitting instead of the 2 weeks I was supposed to give. As a result they put it into their system I was terminated and made me non rehirable. Now I have been trying desperately to get a new job. I stupidly applied several places with the clothing store I worked at listed as a reference. They never called me obviously. Now I've been filling out applications leaving the past experience section blank. I got a call from one of the places that I filled out an application for an interview. At the interview she saw I listed no experience and asked if I've ever had a job before. I lied and said no bc I thought it would ruin my chances of getting hired if I told her I was terminated before. Anyways she said ok and she said they had a policy of conducting background checks on all applicants. So anyways I assume the background check will reveal I did have a job before and was fired from it which will look really bad and also she is gonna think I'm a liar now bc I said I never had a job before and I'm not gonna get hired. What should I do? I feel like no place will ever hire me because I got terminated from my old job. How am I supposed to get a job now? I really need one because I need to pay rent and have no money.

  First of all, you do not need to list your last job as a reference, there is usually a "Can we contact this employer as a reference?" question. Write "no". If not, you need to simply CALMY explain the situation to your next potential employer. There is no way for you to know for certain that the reason you weren't called back to the other jobs you applied to is because of your old job. Take it slowly. List the reference on applications, usually an application will also have a "Reason for leaving" section. Briefly state that you moved away unexpectedly. When they call you back for an interview, tell them what happened. But do so calmy, don't rush, and don't make excuses (ie, "I know you won't hire me now..." or "I can't beleive they did that to me." Things happen in life! Don't worry too much about it. And maybe apply for places not so similar to your old job, maybe you're overqualified for the places you're applying to! Branch out!
