Tips for getting a job please?

What am I doing wrong when it comes to getting a job?

  • So I have been through 2 jobs now within the year but the only reason I have gotten them was through someone I know on the inside. The first job went under because my boss didnt have enough work to pay me, but that's construction for you. My second job was a seasonal job so eventually the season ended and I was let go. I have applied to a lot of places. I do the extra mile to call in or even walk in dressed nicely with a resume to see if they will at least go over my application and give me a chance with an interview. Of course they dont. I am persistent, punctual and polite whenever I talk to someone. I just dont know what I am doing wrong. Im getting very close to a deadline where I absolutely NEED a job. Please if anyone has any hit or tips to what I might be doing incorrectly or what I might not be doing, let me know. Getting kind of desperate here.

sounds like you need to get more jobs that people will pull you in on, same as before. Since 2008 (the mortgage fiasco) the economy has been bad and getting worse so you're probably applying for the same job 2000 other people are. construction has been down, but there still is construction out there in the area of rebuilding homes that have had fires or other bad things happen to them. There are jobs for bug sprayers since termites are swarming because of the warmer days. People are still moving in and out of their apartments so IF gas is down then you could help haul, but even if you don't own the company make it known that you're available to help out. People like me who need help from time to time and have asked all my neighbors, well they're too lazy to work, so you need to get your name out there to show you are able and willing to work. There might be some temp agencies out there (it's the temp agencies that put people to work at the electric, gas and water companies) where you could put in your application. There are good oil jobs in Canada right now, and places you can apply in America for those too. Lots of places to apply on the internet for those. Listen to the radio and tv as they too have jobs they mention that have come available if you're looking for local work. You can apply for county jobs, and at your state office for jobs (once on their list you can search the job list from home). Since you've been in construction, well Home Depot, at least here, has been hiring. Maybe you could do a temp warehouse job at Sams or at the grocery store.
