How can i find a job within a week?
-
I am in a bit of a bind right now. Ok so i am a 22 year old male with my GED and no previous employment history. For the last few years my wife worked and i watched the kid, she was the first of us to find a job so we just went with it. I assume this looks bad on my applications. I have only personal references, many applications ask for at least two professional references. My wife has been unemployed for the past nine months from having our second child. We also had to move so she lives with her mother in an area where she cannot rely on the local transit as a means of transportation to and from work. Sadly for those nine months i have had to find other places to live in area where i could ride the bus to work. The problem is i have yet to find a job. Now we have ran out of the money we had saved and we have one month until our bills are due. Our cells which are both very important seeing how she has to have a way of contact with her father who helps her get to appointments she has and all of those other important things including the oldest child's school. And i need mine to have a means of a potential employer to contact me. Our storage which is also another one of those bills which you can't just forget about. Not something you can do without if you don't want to lose everything you have. And my rent where i am staying at the moment. She lives with her mother for free. I am beyond sick of being away from my wife and children, but sadly with no job there is no solution to that problem. And everyone around me thinks i just don't give a damn because i still have no job. I have literally tried everything i can think of to get any old job. All effort has proven fruitless. I really don't care if its a job at Burger King or wherever at this point a job is a job. And i have made tons of phone calls as well as going in in person to speak with managers. None of which has done anything for me. I start school at the local university this fall and my wife plans to start next year. Maybe one of these years life wont be so hard. But for now i just really need a job. Any job... There has got to be some way for a person to get a crappy job. All of my online research has been a waste of time up to this point. There seems to be no real means of help on the internet for crappy hourly employment. The local career center has nothing for me due to lack of experience. Does anyone know of any way to improve my odds of getting a job? Or a way to actually get a job for someone in my position? I am willing to bust my *** at any job and walk two hours to and from the location if it takes it at this point. I am not just another one of those people who needs a job just to get by and will "go to work-do my job-go home". Rather, i actually want to work my way up to improve my odds for better employment in my future. If anybody reading this has any idea that may help me i would be very grateful. And please do not tell my craigslist or my local paper, both of which i use everyday. Also please no: follow up on your applications. I do that often as well.

Answer:
Man, you are in a serious trouble. The only thing you can do if you want a job that offers promotion (well, every job does, but not equally) is to be persistent and patient. You, on the other hand, don't have time. In my opinion, it would be best for you to try and get a warehousing job (there is a list on http://www.warehousingjobs.net/ ) and start there. At least a part-time job. It isn't really the lightest of jobs on your back, but at least it pays, manual workers are always needed, and it doesn't really ask for experience. Try part time, and in time, you just might get a full time position. Of course, in the meantime, no one prevents you from seeking something that you would like to do for years. Good luck.

Start sending in tons of apps for anything and everything, even if you wouldn't think of yourself working there. Just try it. In the meantime so things to get money, like sell things you don't use or need on craigslist, ask friends who have personal businesses to help out, like construction or pressure washing etc. If you do get a job, on the side you should make flyers for things people need done around your town, maybe they need clean up, or houses pressured washed or help moving etc. (just examples) and try setting yourself up for something to fall back on if your job doesn't work out. Find ways to make money in the mean time. Reach out to friends and family to help you if things get dire.
