What is an average day like at job corps?

If i join the job corps...i would live close enough to drive there could i do that every day?

  • and also if i do how does the allowance thing work?? would i Still get it?

  • Answer:

Most Job Corps centers are residential only. You would have to check with the one you want to attend whether they have a non residential option. The 'allowance' is cash pay which you receive whether yu live on or off center. social security is deducted. You are paid every 2 weeks. The money is yours to do with as you wish. Again, depending on what center it is, you could leave center every day after classes and also on any weekend. Also, there are 2 seventeen day breaks each year - one over 4th of July timeframe and one that includes Christmas and New Years.

Other answers

Most job corps locations require you to live on site and you are only allowed to leave the campus on holidays. If you were permitted to commute you would probably be ineligible for the allowance. The money is to provide for toiletries and the like. Presumably if you live with someone you already have those things. Also if you live off campus they cannot monitor what you spend it on.
