Education may not mean anything when it comes to a job!?

Are you looking on the internet for jobs? I don't know about where you are but in Australia most of the jobs are on job search web sites and you download your resume and details and send in an application. It saves a lot of running around, but it is still frustrating. I am looking for part-time work, pretty much anything now. I have two kids at school and school finishes at 3.00pm and someone has to pick them up (that would be me) and after school care is expensive and they have limited places. As soon as I mention I have kids in a job interview they look at me like I have a terrible disease!!! I have been looking since november last year, I am getting interviews which is encouraging but have not got 'a' job yet. Keep looking and don't give up, you need to use what skills you have and find something suitable, if your degree isn't enough find something along those lines - like in a law office as a clerk or something along those lines. I will take pretty much anything except dealing with food and wiping bottoms!!! anything else I can handle!!! You just have to find your limits and stick to that. Good luck, I know how you feel.

You're not too old to be a police officer, prison guard, security guard, deputy. My bro got into a police academy after his 40th birthday. It's also the economy and the budget problems of many states and cities. What kind of skills did you pick up in school? Apply those skills in a related job. As the economy gets better, get another job that gets you toward your goal. You have to show an improvement in your situation or a step toward your goal every time you move, otherwise you look like you're just job hopping. There is a difference between an education and job skills. Which one did you get? Jobs are not automatic when you get a diploma. You still have to chase your dream.

I agree with the guy above me. Associates degree are not anything special I guess I should say.. No offense. Associates degree are easier to gain than a Bachelors because they dont require the same amount of hard classes or time. If you have two Associates, you should have just gone for a Bachelors degree. See if you can get a job as a local police officer. An education will help you out, but you need more to show for it. Why dont you go back to college and finish up any other classes you need to get a Bachelors in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement. I know its hard for you because you might need the money, just really put yourself out there. Im sorry for this to happen to you

In this economy, it's tough to get a job, even with an education. That's why going to college for things like Criminal Justice isn't the best choice. Even if it is what you enjoy, it's not the way to go. I know plenty of friends having the same trouble as you though. I have a friend that has their Bachelors in Criminal Justice and another friend that has their Bachelors in Psychology. Both of them were working at a lumber company as cashiers making minimum wage. The only successful people I know getting out of school are people that go to school for NEEDED careers, such as nursing or medical assistants, etc. Exactly why I chose nursing.
