Need advice on whether or not to leave my job?
-
Okay, so I am a highschool student and am only 17 years old. This is the summer before my senior year starts. I work three jobs. One part time and two through family friends. I typically work 35 hours between all three during the school year, and 50 over the summer. Right now my primary job is draining 25 hours a week while my other two typically take 25 hours between the both. This means there are days I work one job 9 A.M - say 3 and must be at my part time job 5 to 11. This is my typical day right now. When school starts back up, I'm back to adding 35 hours a week to school plus about 20 for homework because I'm in the I.B program and typically get 4-5 hours of homework each day. Last school year, I worked all three jobs while doing I.B. I remember numerous days I would go to school 7:30-3 be at work 5-11 and be doing home work till 3 or 4 in the morning only to repeat it the next day. I can't do that this year because I want to be at least Salutorian of my class and right now I am 5th out of 250. I feel that I need to cut out working my main job because that is what consumes the bulk of my time. I feel that If I cut this out, I could be more focused on school next year. That aside, I was planning on making my last week to be one week before i return to school. I can't help but to feel depressed that I work everyday and am not enjoying my summer. I'm only 17 and shouldn't be working 50 hour weeks. I need advice. Would you stay and stick it out till the end of summer to put away some extra emergency money, or live with 1/2 of what I'm used to and quit now to enjoy whats left of my summer? Thanks much :)

Answer:
The answer here depends on your monetary needs, and if you really CAN live on half of what you're now making. That's only for the summer though. When school starts, by far the most important thing will be to keep your grades up. Becoming valedictorian or salutetorian is a great goal and may well affect the rest of your life. You clearly can't keep up those hours and devote yourself really well to schoolwork. This isn't really a question anyone else can answer for you. If I were in your shoes though - I would try to work less hours and live on less money. Good luck!
