How to turn down a job offer after an interview? Please help asap!?
-
As of now I have a possibility of 2 jobs, one being full-time and better suited for myself and the other being part-time and of less interest to me. The lady who owns the store to the full-time job is interested in meeting me, so I am going in tomorrow to talk to her. The part-time job called me this morning and asked if I was still looking for a job, and I replied with yes because it is not guaranteed that I will get this other full-time job yet. So we set up an interview for tomorrow. If the interview goes well and they decide to hire me, but I find out they would also like to hire me at the job I prefer, how to I tell the part-time job that I cannot accept their offer any more, do I send them a letter stating "Thank you, but after further consideration I regret to inform you that I will not be accepting. I apologize for an inconvenience this may have caused in light of my previous acceptance." Or should I call in a let them know? I'm new to this job thing and I really do not want to seem rude or waste their time, in case I cross paths with this job again one day, so I need help fast. Thank you, (:

Answer:
Definitely phone, just politely say thanks very much for your offer but I have decided to take a full-time job that has been offered to me instead. They'll understand, this stuff happens all the time in the jobs market :)

They should understand that you are currently in the process of interviewing, and that they are not the only place you are interviewing. If they ask you during the interview about your plans, you can let them know that you are interviewing at other companies as well. Rather than a letter though, you should call the part-time job so that they get the news faster and more personally. They will not hold it against you.
Just tell them the truth they will understand they cant force you to wOrk for them anyways
Take both of the jobs when they are offered, then write the one you dont want a letter saying sorry, i changed my mind:)
Keep all options open until you have the offer you want. Do not turn down any offer until you have another offer you want. Just keep talking to the part-time employer as if you still didn't have a job, which really is the case. It's not a matter of wasting their time and inconvenice. Interviewing people is part of the hiring managers' job. They turn down many candidates after interviewing them but they wouldn't think that they wasted the candidate's time.
