How do I get a job as a Broker?

Help a young single mom find a job?

  • Toronto, ON, Cad I am a young mom (22) and just recently graduated from a college in HR stream. I signed up with an agency a couple months back say January. I was hoping to find some part time while I was still in school and full time as soon after I graduated. So far, it has been 5 months and the only job I got was a 1 day job. And of course I did not solely rely on that agency. I was hunting for jobs on my own as well. I have sent out 100ish resume for the past month or so but only those who lies IE "insurance sales/broker position" whom in job add said compensation = good pay, TBD, blah blah blah which in reality they want you to pay for their course to get in and it is like $400-500 and you are paid based on commission. OR only those agent or referral company. This sucks! I mean I just want to have a normal full time job. Why is it so hard to get. What am I suppose to do now. And I in stress more than ever because it is not like I am the only one, I have the responsibility to feed and roof my daughter. And how am I suppose to do all that without a job? I do not want to be those homless hobo because I am actually looking for a job so that I can live. Any suggestion or secrets to get a normal job? PS: althought I am in HR but I tend to get real. I am not aiming for a "right away" HR job. I am aiming more into the beginner's like Admin or receptionist / customer serv.

Evelyn, It may be in your best interest to search online for "admin recruiters". While you are searching for a job, you can have someone else help you. Make sure that they do what's called a "contingency search". This means that they will help you find a job for free, but if you were to get hired, the company will pay the person that is helping you find the job. It will cost you absolutely NOTHING for this help. You've sent your resume out to a lot of people and you're not receiving feedback to your liking so I'd find a recruiter or two to help you. Many agencies are only temp, but there are some that will help you find permanent positions. Make sure your resume is solid and lists all of your skills and experiences and get yourself some strong character references. There's a difference in going to a little run of the mill agency that will help you find a cheesy job and those agencies that take pride in what they do. Go online and search for "executive search firms" for your local area. They may ask you to interview with them first, but an exec search firm is much more professional and if you want an admin position, they may be able to provide you with outstanding leads. HOPE THIS HELPS!

check on monster, careerbuilder, your local unemployment office, and the sunday paper. jobs are hard to come by these days, you just have to keep looking. it is a job in itself looking for a job.have you gone to a temp agency? that may be an option as well. have you thought about doing daycare for some kind of income for now? you could get a couple of kids the age range of yours. good daycare is hard to come by. you may want to check into the state requirements needed. don't fall for those work at home online things, they are all scams.
