What does a job check for in a background check?

When applying for a job and they do a background check what all do they check?

  • I have this job and i have to go for a drug test and a background check. do simple jobs usually just do criminal background checks or what? what are they ganna be doing

  • Answer:

Some employers, in order to save money, do not do a background check. It depends on the employer. Look on the application and see if asks you or tells you that there will be a background check. It you are anxious to find out what it will reveal, you can do a background check on yourself. There are websites that you can google for background checks and pay a fee to get them.

Other answers

It really depends on the company. Usually its a credit and criminal check done by a 3rd party verifier. If you have lots of defaults and outstanding judgments it could be an indicator that you would not be an ideal candidate for the job. Other times, you agree to a background check, but it doesn't get done. At the least, you should expect some of your prior jobs and references to be called.

Background check: Credit Report, criminal background check and under some circumstances your Driving Records thru the DMV. Drug Test... simple test will be a urin test (pee test - will show any recent drug activity). sophisticated: hair follicle test. Can trace drug use back over a year. It all depends on the job... if your soon to be employer has the money to spend he can order whatever test he likes.
