NEED GUIDANCE FOR CHOOSING A CAREER!?

im planning on going to university and majoring in journalism and maybe philosophy and im wondering what are my career options after i get a masters in journalism, im also wondering what classes are mandatory and what classes will help me. im also considering doing an apprenticeship for carpentry and im wondering which would be a better career choice of living living in a city like new york or toronto in an apartment with my girlfriend/wife with no kids.
