Applying for summer job?

When and where to start applying for a summer job?

• I live in California and will be 16 in May. I want to make some money this summer. I really want to get a job. I don't really have any experience except babysitting and I'm really shy, but I want a real job not babysitting because I know at 16 it is legal to work at some places. I will get over my shyness, somehow. I want to get my license when I turn 16. I have talked to my parents and we have agreed that if I get my license I will have to pay for my own insurance ($100/month to add me) my own gas, and I will have to start saving for a car. The only way any of this is going to happen is if I get a job. Does anybody have any suggestions on where/when to start applying? I really want to work at a bowling alley because I'm a pretty good bowler and my dream is to go pro after college and i think that it would not only be an enjoyable job but also help get me closer to accomplishing my goal. The only problem is that the nearest bowling alley is 20 miles from my house and I don't know that i would be making enough to pay for gas and insurance and some money to save for a car. What should I do? Do you know if most bowling alleys would even hire at 16, like to work at the front desk, answering the phone, sterilizing rental shoes, working the register, etc? Thank you!   You can probably get a minimum wage job at a bowling alley, if it is big enough. Will you have enough to get there and back, probably not. Also, they won't hire seasonally, so don't ask them for a summer job.
