Hard to know in these economic times. You need to research and probe and get a feeling in the interview amongst other things. I did that and it worked in my favor . You could say when they offer you what they decide say is that negotiable? considering my experience etc.. you have to sell yourself. but you can sell yourself all you want if the company is bearing staying a float or doesn't have the funds then you can't its a gamble really once you go in with that you can't very well back track and say oh okay well i'll take the lower amount. ( I mean im sure some people would do that) but you have your pride and you know what your worth. I wouldn't. But i would also research and get a feel for the company and the people who interview you and ask questions along the way then you sit back and mull everything over and think things through pro's and cons. and in the end its your decision. what ever you decide you have to know if it doesn't go as planned are you okay with that can you walk away and then say thank you anyways.

You'd really have to get a read on the situation. I'd say $5 an hour is probably too far, depending on what the hourly wage is and what the job is. The best thing you can do is to get a read on your situation. See if it's the going rate. See if it's a company you want to work for. Maybe try for $3.50 an hour more. But not $5.
just do it very carefully so you don't come off as arrogant or too pushy, and if they are firm about it don't press the subject or you may lose the job. You should try to negotiate though just explain to them that you do have some experience in the field and you feel that the pay should be a little more.

ONLY 1 years work experience? they are already offering you $3/hr ($6000+/yr) more than you already make? you should be happy to get $1 an hour more than you now make - you have no negotiating power in this job market with that little experience you better take the job and be happy - you aren't getting any more money
