  • Answer:

I become rather annoyed at so called experts giving advice on Interview techniques so, ignoring the answers you have been given so far The secret revolves around preparation. Find out as much as you can about the Company Find out as much as you can about the job you have applied for Obtain some information regarding the Company';s status in their market place in other words how good a company are they Find out about possible progression routes you will have open to you (you really don't want to be at the bottom of the ladder do you) Will they provide any training for you. Don't ask about salary, holidays or Company perks. Remember that an Interview is a two way process - you are interviewing the company too. When you are asked questions avoid closed answers, in other words if they asked "Did you have any difficulty finding us? Don't say either Yes or No, Give a little information such as "No, I came down to the company two days ago to familiarise myself with your location, bust times/car parks and how long my journey took" etc This in itself demonstrates that you took the time to find out. Above all, try to build a rapport with the interviewer, sit nice and relaxed -lean slightly forward and dress smartly but comfortably. Don't overdo the deodorant/perfume/aftershave. remember that you are not making a fashion statement, you are demonstrating a professional approach. Finally enjoy the interview. and Good luck

Best thing to do is RELAX. There's nothing worse than a nervous, sweaty, incoherent interviewee turning up in your office. The poor old interviewer has to spend time calming the applicant down before they can get down to the business of finding out if the applicant is any good or not and it's wasting time if the interviewer is busy so it's a black mark for you from the outset if it cheeses them off. As an applicant, you have to know a little about the business you are trying to find a job with otherwise you can't ask sensible questions and end up looking like a complete dumbo which won't get you anywhere either. If you don't get this particular job, don't be downhearted. Look on the interview as experience so you'll be better at the next one you go to. Remember, an interview isn't just you going cap in hand to a business like a beggar looking for a handout. The interview is to see if they want you, and more importantly, if YOU want the job on offer. To find out if it's the job for you, you should be able to ask various questions to see if it's worth your while. Don't go straight for the 'how much are you paying' although that detail should come out from the interviewer. If it doesn't, then it's a point that needs clarification. Basically, just relax and be yourself. If they have a million other applicants, your questions and interest in the job will make you stand out from the crowd and being relaxed lets you show the real you. After all, you will be yourself when you are actually doing the job, so be yourself at interview. Saves a lot of time, a lot of heartache and is more likely to get you the job than if you pretend to be someone you are not (because that will show immediately.)

Read up on the company. Write down a list of questions to ask. Arrive 30 minutes BEFORE the interview - this gives you time to 'relax' and shows that you are keen to work for the company (a lot of interviewers ask the receptionist(s) for their opinion.
