How long should I wait for a call back from a potential employer?

  • I applied for a job yesterday and was called a few hours later about setting up an interview. During the discussion, I made it known that I had applied there two years ago. Due to this, the person said there may be some portion of the process I may not need to repeat. She said that she would find out and then call me back. I still have not heard back,how much longer should I wait before I check in?

    I would give it until the end of the day tomorrow, and call them before closing. You don't want to see too impatient, but you also don't want to wait too long. It's possible the person got busy and forgot. I work in HR and sometimes when there is an job applicant who has previously applied for a position, we go back and see why we didn't choose them the first time. Maybe that after looking at your previous applicantion, they are going to pass on you again, but you should really call to make certain.

I'd wait two days then call them back. As long as you aren't being annoying... it'll show that you are serious about this job.

You made a huge mistake by telling this person that that you had applied there before. With most companies, they would not have called back an applicant who had applied 2 years ago because they would not still have record. It sounds like they were just trying to let you off easy. I would just try to find another job & don't waste your time waiting for them to call you back.

Three days. Than call them and say you are curious if they have looked over your resume yet because you would love to set up an interview. At which point they will look at your resume right away. Tell you they are not hiring or tell you that they will get back to you. If they don't, call back in another three days with the same question.

I wouldn't worry. If you haven't heard from them give them by Friday afternoon give them a call.
