How do I find a job as a waitress or hostess?

• I'm 20 years old, female, with a lot of retail experience, but no food service experience. I'm also a full time college student. I would like to be a waitress or hostess for a restaurant (any restaurant, except fast food) and work about 20-30 hrs. per week. How do I go about looking for a job like this? I check Craigslist every day, and I keep an eye out for "help wanted" signs on restaurant windows, but I've had no luck. So how can I find a 20-30 hr. a week job as a waitress or hostess? Or, how do I find a job in general?

  Tip 1: Do footwork and beat the pavement. If online sites aren't doing it for you, then print a large number of resumes and go to every restuarant, hotel, etc in your area. FORGET "help wanted" signs. Thats a thing of the past. Go inside anywhere you would like to work and ask for an application. Ask to speak with the manager. If you are looking to work in a restaurant, go between 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. as this is usually their slow periods. Most will ask you to apply at specific times and days. Try to be the first one! Tip 2: Go to an employment agency that will help you find employers. Tip 3: Apply at places that have a large turnover rate. That means, alot of people are needed and are also being fired. Amusement Parks, large hotels etc. Try Disneyland, Six Flags, Water-Parks etc. Most high-class restuarants / hotels will require a few years of experience in waiting tables. Now is not really a good time for employment. That includes people who have a lot of experience in their fields. However,don't give up! Be persistant. Make sure you are applying for at least 5 jobs every day! Good luck!
