Dual Career Question?

Career Question- What to do with my life? *very confused*?

  • Dear All, I recently graduated college last may and am currently in law school. I am 22 years old, my question is regarding a career choice. I am not sure how much I like law school, I feel sometimes that I decided to go to law school because I knew Id be able to complete the degree in 3 years, and that was appealing. However, before I went to law school I thought a lot about medicine, I feel as though I am very stimulated by the doctor's enviornment & responsiblities, (does that sound wierd?) I have been told by people that I'm personable, etc, but I am getting lazy thinking about having to go back to undergrad and take medical pre-requs,(I took no science courses as an undergrad) I was also an awful science student in high school and that has always discouraged me from pursuing a field in medicine,i feel like i'm old and by the time i would come out of school i;ll be in my 30's and will never be able to marry and have kids, what do i do? i am a week away from finishing my first semester in law school & feel so confused. I want to have a fulfilling career, but i feel like when i tell people i am unsure of law school they tell me im crazy and that its a great career. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i share ur pain. im 22 n in a similar boat. heres what to do first figure ur personality, the things dat hold ur interest, what r ur values in life, what kind of lifestyle do u wnt 4 urself, r the kind of jobs that u wanna do even available in the area that u liv in. do a career or personality test. try myers briggs u can google n take it for free. then u can see what careers match u. seems to me u r more than confused. look science didnt work, then medicine cant even. for sure. u took law, what was ur motive behind that? did it interest u at first? why r u stepping back- is law tough / hard ? lawyers can hav a very bright career u know, and many ppl wud kill 2 b in ur shoes. dont choose medicine at least not now. and if u r not ready to study all over again then u hav to make up ur mind soon and take skill classes or train in sumtin that suits ur interest better. u still hav time, but think deeply and then make a move, no jumps n starts n then back steps. good luck!

Why not become a lawyer for malpractice, hospitals, or something medical? You could wrap your brain and passions around all the healthcare stuff... without forfeiting what you've already accomplished! Also, you may realize by diving into it... that you were never meant for it in the first place and are relieved you didn't go that way. If that doesn't work... then at least you'd get a little medical training and a heads up on starting over with that career path instead.

Ok, don't panic, this is a life problem that comes to mind on every single human being. You are 22, that is still young my friend, If I were you, I would maybe become a Lawyer if not Doctor. The pay is amazing, but the time is a pain. And no, that sounds perfectly fine.

You could always take summer and winter (break) courses to catch up on classes you would need for the medical field. You might feel old now, but imagine being in your seventies and realizing you didn't get to do what you wanted to. Live life with no regrets.

For now, don't worry about what others tell you. I've been also been told that I'm very personable and that I should go into sales but I don't want to do sales. You're letting other people's opinions affect your decision-making way too much. If you're good at law, stick with it and find a career in law. If you're really not happy, take some time off to look into other things. Don't rush yourself. You're only 22. It's way too early to think about getting married and having kids. Besides, I know plenty of women who have careers, are married, have kids, AND went back to school for their master's degrees.

Peace
