Should a take a new job offer?
-
I currently have been working in a position in sales for the past four months. I am right out of college and not quite sure what I want to do yet. I will make 14.67 an hour at 40 hours which is $30,500 a year and $586 a week, however right now I am at 32 hours a week and they have promised me 40 hours starting in May due to the economy. Which means I still make $14.67 an hours but I make $469 a week. I have medical benefits. The owners took over the business in June of 2008 and there are about 9-10 employees. I drive 35 minutes to work. So my dilemma is that I was offered a different job with a large corporate company however they pay less they pay $26,800 for full time, They offer all the benefits you could every imagine from dental, health, vision, 401k, college tuition reimbursement etc.. The job is 15 min from home. A friend of mine works their and told me the boss of my potential department said he would like to move me up as quickly as possible based on my degree and experience, however there is not guarantee. You can apply for different job in the company after 6 months of employment. So the other dilemma is that I am in debt due to college loans and if I take the new job I will only be able to pay my bills which means I will have to have a part time job as well, in the evenings after my 9-5 job. So I don’t know if it’s worth taking on a lower paying job but what interests me is the benefits and potential growth. Or should I stay with my current job that does not have a lot of growth and pays more so I will not have to have a second job. I would like to benefit myself for the future but it stinks to have no money to save!! ???

Answer:
I think it would be a great opportunity for you to take the new job. The potential growth sounds avaiable and that's really important. It may take you a year or 2 to be earning more but that's better than being at your current job for 5 years and never advancing. And the part time job can be fun, I know alot of friends that work 9-5s and they waitress on the weekends and they like it because it's a fun environment to work in with peers and still make good money. Good luck!
