What are some medical/health careers without a degree?

Careers with a Molecular Biology B.A. Degree?

  • I've been looking through colleges all day and I've decided that I probably want to apply early action for Princeton University. I'm most likely going for a molecular biology concentration but I have no idea what kind of careers are available for a degree like that. I love molecular biology but I imagine myself having to work in a science lab. Although I'm most likely wrong and I only grasp a very narrow view of this subject, what possible careers are there for a degree such as this?

  • Answer:

Yes, working in a research lab would be one of the options, but there are lots of others. With a BA, you would probably work as a research assistant, meaning you will work for a researcher, who will do (simply put) the thinking and you will do the wet lab work and troubleshooting. You could work in an academic research lab, for a PhD (postdoc) or Professor, doing research (e.g. to find a cure for cancer, MS, arthritis) Or you could work in a biotech company. You would also end up in a forensic lab doing crime investigations, or testing if a child's father is really the father, or testing the ancestry of a person. Whole genome sequencing is also becoming very popular, so lots of companies are now hiring persons to run the sequencers, purify the DNA from clients, etc. Good luck!
