Does quitting your part time job (first job) look bad?
-
Hi I'm 17 years old. Finally got my first job part time about 2 months ago. Since I've started, I haven't liked it at ALL. The main reason this thought has crossed my mind, is my manager. She is constantly cutting me down, and telling me the things I'm doing wrong. I get written up maybe a few times a month, but still. On the sheet, it says if this continues, there will be a harsher discipline, and if it were to be taken to the next step after that, there will be possible termination. I already know that getting fired will look pretty bad on my resume. I'm still looking to keep this job for as long as I possibly can. Which at max will only be another 7 months because when I turn 18, I'm getting a job with my father that has a much better pay, and will be a full time job. But if it goes to the next step in my job, where they start to give me this "harsher discipline" I will more than likely quit the job, wait as long as it takes to turn 18, then get that next job. I plan on going to a 4 year college so that shouldn't look bad on my resume. But I was wondering, if it would look bad, for a 17 year old to quit a part time job, as his first job, on my resume.. Like honestly, would this small step in my life, prevent me from getting a long term career? Thanks

Answer:
No, you're just starting out it doesn't affect your future career. Just bear in mind you've face more set backs for any position, working aint easy. Gd luck.

Well, it will if you don't have any other job history or if it continues that way with other jobs. Also, you will come to learn that you will, most of the time, have at least 1 person that you work with/for that you don't like, doesn't like you, puts your down, annoys you, etc... it is part of life. If you are lucky enough to find a job where you get along with everyone, including your supervisors, keep it lol. It doesn't come along very often.
Quit, if it's either that or get fired. Your first few jobs usually don't count for much in your entire career, and once you've had a few jobs, you don't need to put all of them on your resume anyway.
It will most likely NOT effect your long term career. It looks good that you are trying to work at a young(ish) age. If you do quit, make sure you give your 2 weeks notice and stick by the job until you've completed your final days. That is the responsible thing to do. Not everyone is cut out to be a manager and if you have a bad one, it makes work very difficult to endure. I would suggest either sticking it out or giving those 2 weeks and looking for a babysitting job or something that is short term until you turn 18. Good luck.
Im 27, I've had literally 22 jobs in my life. I started out with a movie theater job, then some fast foods, walmarts, kmarts etc. Then I got a job with the postal service working in their plants, then I got a job at a law firm, then Cisco, then Google. All with a high school diploma, and all within 10 years. Im now self employed. Most of those jobs I had when I was a teen were only for like a week. I have a bad temper and I would walk out on many jobs if someone pissed me off. It doesnt matter, I just lied when getting my next job. The jobs that didnt matter dont really check that well, and the jobs that do matter dont care what you did on jobs that dont matter.
quit if you real want but didnot look back
