What are decent paying jobs that do NOT require a degree?
-
I really don't want to go to college, but I want to make at least 50K per year and have benefits. I really don't see that happening without a degree of some kind. I would be an air traffic controller since that doesn't require a degree, but I am blind in my left eye so I can't. I still have awhile before I have to decide over college or not. The summer after my senior year I plan on working for the city in either Telecommunications or the Water Distribution Plant since they hire summer help, and it would be a good way to get hired in to work full time. If I went to college I would plan on going for Computer Information Systems and become an IT and work for the city, And I would have good chance of getting hired for summer help since my mom works for the city doing some desk job. So, it seems like college is the only way I can go if I want to make a decent living in my situation.

Answer:
I am a hiring manager. I can tell you in the years to come with the way the economy is that the less educated are going to the the under employed. The college grads will end up the the decent paying jobs that do not require an education for the sake of getting the experience. That basically leaves fast food and the mall workers for the high school kids. However, due to the high number of Immigrants those jobs will be extremely difficult to get. Don't believe me.....look around. I live in Las Vegas, one of the largest places where the uneducated can make a ridicules salary. Parking cars, food service, bar-tending,cocktail serving, 21 dealer. However all of those positions have an expiration date. Eventually, you stop being young and are not seen as good looking so you end up in the crappy casino 30.00 a day. Let me tell you that my IT guys make anywhere from 70,000 to 120,000 a year. They get to travel, have health insurance, work indoors. However , if you truly have your heart set on not getting an education you can do the following: wash cars waiter / waitress fast food bank teller janitor maid gardener but none of these would give you full time , nor would you get benefits. And 50 K is out of the question!! Even a college grad with a full BS in Accounting start at 38K a year. Good Luck
