How to do references in Java work?

40 year old professional who has no appropriate references for job search in part-time restaurant work?

  • My professional job doesn't give me enough to live on, so I need part time work. I used to work in restaurant work and enjoy it somehwat, but all my current references are from my current professional circles. I worked in restaurants over ten years ago and have not kept in touch with those contacts. So, do I just leave "references" empty on applications? I wouldn't want to put my current references because they would wonder why I am seeking restaurant work and it would be embarrassing. I have no other friends or contacts to put down. Suggestions appreciated.

You really do have to put something or you probably will not be hired. I would go to one of your managers or a colleague that you trust in advance and let them know what's going on. Ask that they keep it confidential. Sometimes things are embarrassing, but unfortunately, we have to do them anyway. How about a minister? I don't know your personal situation but that's the advice I have. Hope it helps
