What does a job check for in a background check?

What happens if you provide wrong information in a background check for a job?

  • I recently tried getting a job at a school, I am currently waiting to receive my residence/green card, however i do have a tax id number. my friend is a teacher at the school and said that i could work at the school either way because i was just going to be a classified employee. When i finally did go to get processed they required a background check in which they took my fingerprints but since i have no social security number, they put my tax id number instead. i was reluctant and asked if it would be a problem...the person helping me said she thought it would be fine as she had never encountered a problem and said that if there was any problem that the only thing that would happen is that i dont get the job. The job is now the last thing im worried about, I am worrying now that this will affect my chances at receiving my residence. Is there anything i can do or should do???? Or should i just wait and see what happens with the job??? Thank you so much for your help!!!!!

    everything sounds fine to me, don't;t know why you would run into a problem.

Chances are, you may be dismissed from your job once it is discovered you falsified your information. If you have no social security card and do not have a legitimate green card, you will more likely be arrested sometime in the near future and be deported (INS). If you have a green card or working visa, you may have some issues you will have to sort out but it should work out okay.
