Is it hard for a teen to get a job?

Why is it so hard for a teen to get a part-time job?

  • I graduated HS this past May and have decided to take a gap year to take a break from school because I'm burnt out from the day to day routine and going to sports practices n such. I applied for college and have deferred my admission so I can go back next year because I feel like I need some time to figure out what I'm really gonna do with my life like which courses to take, and where to live, etc. I'm also gonna try to walk-on the basketball team next month so I've been training for a pretty long time. However, I've been trying to find a job ever since I got outta HS n had NO luck what so ever. What's up with that?! I did everything necessary like filling out the godd*mn paper work, following up, and all that other stuff. I have had no work experience as well because I usually use my time to practice and train for the sport I love and I have to keep the house healthy in terms of cleaning and repairing because I live on an Indian reservation and our lights go out like everytime it rains. Not as good as the city. It's a tough life. There's a town only 8 miles away from the rez and I've had no luck finding work there. Heck, I couldn't even get a part-time job as a cashier at the local, broken down reservation convenience store!!!!!! It really sucks. It's just nothing but government jobs around here. If I can't get a job on the rez, then how can I get a job period? How can I get one if I've never had one before. I've given up for a month now. What's up with that?

if its that tough for you, maybe you know how far now you have to push yourself. if that makes sense

In the current economy its tough for everyone, my parents are both unemployed right now. The key is to keep plugging away and be proactive. Make your own work. Start a business, whether it be online or just helping people out around there houses. Sorry for your luck man, but you're a smart kid. you'll do just fine.

This is because companies or even small businesses needs someone who has an experience with the job.

Ive been thinking the same thing, (being in ur place), i think its cause theres alot more highly educated people out there that get it much easier, than the teen with no work experiance. Its rough out there, id just stick to school till you know what ya wanna do for sure

You have to have working experience.
