Is a provisional worker job secure?

Can my old job tell my (almost) new job that i was a bad worker?

• i quit my old job because i found a new and way better job.. the new job called my old job because i put them as a reference (idk why i did that) and one of the managers from the old job told them ALOTTTT of bad stuff about me.. that i was always late, i didnt go to work on purpose, i was late on deliveries, always on my phone, that i went back to the job because i was begging (which was not true), also that i quit after only working there a week and a half which is false (i worked for about a month nd a half, and many other stuff.... can they do that? now i dont know if im going to get this new jobb. the only reason i see why they would be mad is because i only gave a week nd a few days notice.. instead of 2 weeks.. thats all i can think off

  once you put your old job down as a reference that gives your new employer the wright to call your old employer to see if you are telling them the truth about what you told them on your employment form.next time tell them the truth
