URS Corp. needs credit score for hire? Scam or not?
-
My sister applied for a job with URS Corp. off of Craigslist ans got this e-mail. "Hello Thank you so much for your interest in our opportunity. I appreciate you contacting us. In case our posting was not clear, some of the responsibilities of this position are as follows: * You will be answering the phone and taking messages when applicable * You will be scheduling the company meetings * Running errands for the company for things such as purchasing supplies and making bank deposits. * You will be provided with a company car. * While you are running errands, you will also be given one of our company credit card(s) for all business purchases. You definitely seem one of the more qualified people than others we have received emails. I would like to take the next step with you; however, before I can set up an interview, we will require that you obtain a recent (past 14-21 business days) credit report. We at URS Corporation enforce this because we have unfortunately had some bad experiences with prior employees taking advantage of having access to company credit card. In recent studies, we have also discovered people that have lower than usual scores are linked to more fraud at place of employment. Again, in order to preserve ourselves we will require any applicants to fill out a credit report, at zero cost to you. Both myself and URS Corporation heavily prefer it if you Click Here to acquire this information as they are currently offering a credit report, at zero cost to you (If you go through the link, we can cover any costs or fees). We at URS Corporation have also found that their scores always report back the most factual and accurate information compared to others. All potential applicants are to complete this step as suggested by our branch of the BBB(Better Business Bureau). Once you submit all of the required information, they will show your personal report. Please print it out and save it for your records. Please do not email me the entire report, as it will have private content. We can disscuss it when we meet in person. If you have a lower than expected credit score, it will never prevent you from a position with us. I had a fairly low score when I started. Once your finished please e-mail me your credit score and phone number that you can be easily reached, and your availability to arrange an interview. Personally, I am hoping to fill this position with a new friendly face and am looking forward to your quick response. Kind Regards, Jason Smith URS Corporation and Technologies | HR Dept. " from [email protected] the company itself seems pretty legit Ilooked up the website, stock index for it, and wikipedia. But, the email itself threw me off, why isnt it a company email, and it does sound legit, if you have too much debit you dont get a security clearence with the government(same theory). But does this come off as a scam to you guys?

I applied for this receptionist job too (off of Craigslist) and got this exact response today! From a "Richard Dave" but when I looked a little further at the reply-path of the e-mail, the name read: [email protected]. I was just Googling this guy's name to see who he was and came up with this thread. I'm desperate for work, but this sounds like a scam to me...I was going to fill out the credit report too, but when I think about it, I've never been asked to do this and I'm just wondering if there isn't another way to ask your employee if they have "credit trouble" or not?
Seeing that all of the above as well as myself have received the EXACT SAME WORDED EMAIL in what appears to be a "form letter" makes me cautious and suspicious of the legitimacy of the company. Where indeed is the company letterhead? Where's the HR contact number (in case someone has questions that needed answering)? And where is their corporate website that I may research the company before taking the next step? This is unfortunate that it casts so much doubt. There are so many people wanting jobs and it's stressful as it is seeking employment with companies that has hundreds of candidates vying for the same few positions. Now we have to be concerned also with people exploiting those who are eager to get back to work. If anyone knows their official website or had been able to find something verifying it on BBB, please post where we can read to follow up on it. Especially to clear up any misunderstandings.

The signature portion on my reply email is from a Jennifer Smith with return email address [email protected]. This most definitely has to be a scam - indeed a very deceptive one as URS Corp is coming up having a local business address in my city. Lesson learned: no job searching on Craigslist.

yeah I just got the same email. Plus its a good thing to note that mine was from a Jennifer Smith but her email is [email protected]. So the email address for her isn't consistent!

Scam. Uses the URS Technologies and URS Corporation. 2 Completely different companies. Any company that wants your credit report will actually have you sign a form giving them permission to do a credit check on you. Also, the closing is signed by several different people. The e-mail addresses don't belong to the person supposedly sending out the e-mail this is how mine reads: Richard Dave [[email protected]] Hello Thank you so much for your interest in our opportunity.
