How long do I have to wait for my final job seeker allowance?

The question about job seeker's allowance?

  • Hello. I worked in the uk for three months but I've recently been laid off. So now I enrolled at job centre plus and claimed for benefits. I have to visit regular meetings here to show that im in search of job but recently I found out that to get job seekers allowance i had to work for at least a year. Is it true that I can't get any money? So what should I do then ? Will I be a beggar? Are there any other options. And why do I have to visit job centre regulary then if they wont gonna give me money to survive?

  • Answer:

It is advisable to secure a temporary job for 9 months even for poor pay, to meet out the statutory requirement of one year. Simultaneously the petition for job allowance may be reserved, which could be useful in future.

3 months is hardly anything to expect to be in full receipt of benefit! But in regards to your question, it isn't a simple yes or no answer, it's a very complicated process, your rights to UK funding have to be looked into. This can take usually up to 6 weeks. You may then get all the 6 weeks payment or nothing at all, of course if you just stop turning up now you will get nothing. What should you do then? Will you be a beggar? The UK doesn't have a responsibility to fund you with money. JSA is not a "right" it is an entitlement if you meet the requirements. Maybe you could claim a benefit from your home country?
