Will my juvenile shoplifting show on a retail background check?

Shoplifting in Florida, how long until won't show up in a background check?

  • Hi! 6 years ago I was caught shoplifting. I was charged under Florida Statute 812.014 with a petit theft in the first degree, a first degree misdemeanor . I plead no contest and did 6 month probation successfully. I was let go from my job last February and now I'm looking for a new job. My question is; is there a statue of limitations for shoplifting in Florida in which my previous misdemeanor won't show up in a background check when applying for a new job? Again, my misdemeanor happened in 2005. Thanks for any information!!

  • Answer:

Sorry but it is forever. Your background check will show that.

Unless you get it expunged it will show up forever. Talk to a criminal attorney about getting it removed from your record. - if it is "removed" it will continue to show up, if people are searching outdated databases.
